My name is Michael. I’m a multi-dimensional creative and brand strategist who dreams big and works with some of the world’s most innovative companies. I lead teams, build strategies and develop ideas that help visionary brands differentiate and grow through creativity. In particular, I understand how to successfully synthesize culture, community, technology and business models.
I am the Creative Director, International of Ring (Amazon). This leadership role spans the UK, EMEA and APAC.
My professional journey is a rather unusual and varied one.
Out of university (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology), my first my brands were in entertainment and content - Blockbuster and Pathé Films at TBWA in Soho, London. Then at OMD UK, I ran the €100M Vodafone media account. At AKQA London I was responsible for the strategy of award-winning Nike work and a transformative Ferrari project.
At 180 Amsterdam, I helped build the creative digital team and ran the Adidas Football 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign. At Perfect Fools, I lead strategy across the Amsterdam and Stockholm offices. After my arrival our annual revenue on Converse grew and we added brands like Nikon and Swarovski to our client list.
From Perfect Fools, I spun out boutique design and technology firm SAI - Society of Arts and Interaction. SAI specializes in brand strategy, platforms and service design. Our work is largely behind the scenes, and we count Nike EMEA and Japanese conglomerate Teijin among our clients. With Nike, we are of course at the apex of culture, community and commerce.
In 2021, I became part-time COO for MOBOLISE - a recruitment platform and joint venture by cultural entertainment icon MOBO and digital global leader Accenture. Before leaving, we launched successfully with a client base that included NBC, Disney, Burberry, and HSBC.
At Stockholm’s Berghs School of Communications, I designed and taught their online Brand Strategy course between 2017 and 2021. I now serve as an international advisory board member.
A great source of inspiration is supporting and working with creators in entertainment, the arts and fashion. I have collaborated with several craftspeople to showcase their work, develop their oeuvres and inspire my own creativity. Collaboration is the best business, and the best art.
